Ragtime plays a mean guitar
I always said he could go far
But still he plays the unemployment blues
Ragtime had a job for a while
But scrubbing floors was never his style
Late for work cause he couldn't find his shoes

He knows all the Jimi Hendrix licks,
Plays left handed just for kicks
Knows all the scales too but he can't play slide
Ragtimes coming over the hill
Some folk say he's mentally ill
But it’s good to have a ragtime on your side

Ragtime eats his supper cold
From a kitchen table that’s covered in mould
And what’s more he drinks his tea straight from the pot
All of Ragtime’s cupboards are bare
There’s potatoes growing, in his hair
Poor old Ragtime I think he’s lost the plot

Well thank god for the welfare state
From the taxpayer’s pocket to Ragtime’s plate
He’s still holding out, for that lottery win
He says that he once got a hole in one
Says that being on the dole is fun
Look out, I think Ragtime’s at it again!
